ORGANIC

Why Buy Organic?

Food that is labeled and sold as organic is grown without using synthetic pesticide or fertilizers; there is no irradiation treatment; the fertilizer is natural. Under organic regulations, farmers and manufacturers must adhere to strict guidelines which must be followed before any food can be labeled “organic”.

Why does organic food cost more than conventional food?

Organic food tends to cost more than its conventional equivalent because organic farming and manufacturing is more labor intensive. This is due in part to fewer pesticides used – according to the Food and Agriculture Organization and USDA – and manufacturing operational practices. Additionally, it’s expensive for farmers and manufacturers to maintain their “organic” status.
